A Prayer to Walk in the Light

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. - 1 John 1:7

SOMETHING TO PONDER

Choosing integrity and closeness with Christ every day.

Walking is so beneficial for our minds and bodies. Taking a walk strengthens your heart, helps manage your weight, controls your blood sugar, and improves joint health. Walking also helps reduce our stress levels, sharpen our memory, and boost our mood. On a practical level, walking with others offers us a chance to connect and to live peacefully together.

I love that God invites us to walk with Him in the light. Walking with God is one way we grow closer to Him. He stays by our side as we go through life, but we have to be intentional to stay in the light. To stay on the narrow path that leads to Heaven.

God’s light shows us the way forward. Without the Word, which was with God in the beginning, we would not be able to see our way forward in this dark world (John 1). As soon as we take our eyes off Jesus and his illuminated way, we tend to get confused; chaos fills our lives, and our lives feel less purposeful. We need the light of Christ in our lives so we can live with peace, meaning, and purpose.

What does walking in the light mean? We stay in the light when we live with the fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 states: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

When we commit to producing good fruit in our lives, we stay in the light. We show others who God is through our righteousness. As we seek to be like Jesus and to grow closer to Jesus, he also draws near to us.

The beautiful thing about walking with God is that when we become too tired to move, He is there to carry us. When the journey feels overwhelming or too much to bear, his loving arms scoop us up and bring us to the place he has appointed for us. Not by our strength, but by his, we can persevere! (Zechariah 4:6)

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Father, I thank you for walking with me. Your constant presence is a comfort to me. Your light is what reveals the next right step I need to take. I ask that you help me to stay in the light. Keep my eyes focused on you, not distracted by worthless things. Show me how to be a person who lives with the fruit of the Spirit. Let the good fruit of my life point others to you! Help me to be an agent of light in this dark world. Carry me when I am weak. Show me how to fully rely on you. Strengthen me when the journey feels too difficult. Help me to persevere when things get difficult. I need you with me every day. Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

  1. How am I being intentional about remaining focused on Jesus as I walk forward in my life?

  2. What forces would want to distract me from the path that God has laid out for my life?

  3. Am I taking time to invite Jesus to walk with me every day? How can I better rely on Jesus when I get tired of walking?

Go Deeper: The Pursuit of Holy Leisure

Have you ever felt like your time with God has become just another box to check?

I know I have.

In this week’s episode of The Love Offering Podcast, I sat down with my Cara Ray to talk about something that truly ministered to my own heart—the pursuit of holy leisure.

Together, we talk about what it means to shift from discipline to delight, and how enjoying God isn’t something we earn—it’s something we receive. We also explore how this can look in real, everyday life… in your home, your work, your relationships, and even in the smallest moments you might otherwise miss. If you like what you hear, be sure to follow The Love Offering on Apple or Spotify so you never miss an episode!
